Dr. Michelle Calvo-Lorenzo holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Science from the University of California-Davis. Formerly an Assistant Professor of Livestock Well-Being and Environmental Management at Oklahoma State University, since 2015 she has served as Chief Animal Welfare Officer for Elanco Animal Health. In her current role, she leads discussions and develops strategies related to animal welfare, with a focus on the areas of research, communication, guidance and innovative services for the livestock industry. A member of numerous industry animal welfare committees including the Dairy Cow Welfare Council, the National Pork Board Animal Welfare Committee and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Cattle Locomotion Task Force, she is a nationally recognized authority on livestock welfare and its role in sustainable agriculture.
